Evelyn Idella Borgstrom Rogers (Stowasser), 95

Dec. 31, 1920 — April 17, 2016

Evelyn I. Borgstrom Rogers (Stowasser), a lifetime resident of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed peacefully in her sleep on April 17, 2016.

Evelyn is survived by her two daughters, Judy (Larry) Newton of Coeur d’Alene, and Janice (Jeff) Kopet of Spokane; two stepdaughters, Sheila Kaiser of Springfield, Mo., and Denise (Don) Sears of Coeur d’Alene; four grandchildren, Michael (Diana) Newton of Coeur d’Alene, Teresa (Dave) Stewart of Coeur d’Alene, Jennifer (Steve) Corkery of Spokane and Jeri Kopet of Spokane; and four great-grandchildren, Brandon and Derrek Stewart of Coeur d’Alene, Levi Newton of Kingston, Idaho, and Corryn Corkery of Spokane.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her first husband, Loren L. Borgstrom (1964); second husband, Walter I. Rogers (2006); her parents, Joseph A. Stowasser and Emma Stowasser, and her two brothers, Clarence E. Stowasser and Allen A. Stowasser.

Evelyn was born in Coeur d’Alene on Dec. 31, 1920, to Joseph and Emma Stowasser. Her father, a mailman, owned and operated the Lakeview Dairy which was located near Meadowbrook by Lake Coeur d’Alene. She grew up at the family house in town and also spent time living on the farm. Evelyn attended grade school at the “vintage” Winton School and graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1938. She attended North Idaho College where she honed her business skills, participated in the Glee Club and also served as treasurer for the Associated Women Students organization. After college, she moved to Boise, Idaho, where she did legal work for the state of Idaho at the capitol building and later returned to Coeur d’Alene when her father became ill.

In July 1941, Evelyn was married to Loren Borgstrom. While Loren served as a medic in the military, Evelyn and her mother, Emma, opened a boarding house at the family home for the Navy wives of those who were stationed at Farragut Naval Station. Her first daughter was born in 1942 and the second daughter in 1953.

Evelyn and Loren were very active in their church serving as delegates for Methodist Conferences. She always helped others and was very active in First Methodist Church circles, served as treasurer for the Sunday school and would play piano for various church functions. Evelyn, an accomplished pianist, could let music roll off her fingertips — ragtime, hymns or classical. She also gave years of volunteer service to the American Cancer Society and Easter Seals.

In November 1968, Evelyn was married to Walter Rogers who was an Air Force retired Chief Master Sergeant. They traveled and had many retired military friends. Evelyn was a member of the Military Wives group which would periodically have luncheons and social events. She and Walt were married for 37 years.

Evelyn had sharp wit, a keen mind and always loved crossword puzzles. This lady could remember dates and trivia as if it were her occupation! She will truly be missed and we love her.

A note of thanks to those from Emilie Court who helped Evelyn during the last few months of her life.
