| April 17, 2016 9:15 PM

RATHDRUM — Sam O’Meara and Abbey Leon led the way as the Lakeland Hawks won a slugfest of a doubleheader with the visiting Moscow Bears in 4A Inland Empire League play Saturday.

Lakeland won the opener 14-13 with five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, then took the second game 24-14 in five innings.

O’Meara hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to tie the first game at 13, then Katie Kastning doubled in Leon three batters later to win it.

“It was so clutch; she really came up big,” Lakeland coach Colleen Bevacqua said of O’Meara, who finished 3 for 5 with three runs scored.

Leon went 4 for 5 with four runs and two RBIs in the first game for Lakeland (5-5, 2-0 4A IEL), and 5 for 6 with three doubles and three RBIs in the second game. O’Meara went 3 for 4 in the second game, and Faith Bodak was 4 for 5 with three runs and two RBIs.

“Abbey Leon did a fantastic job as well,” Bevacqua said.

Lakeland scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh in the first game to force extra innings, and answered in the eighth after Moscow scored four times in the top of the inning.

“It (the comeback in the first game) just shows that we are going to be in it until the end, we’re going to keep pushing,” Bevacqua said.

Kaitlin Watson of Moscow went 4 for 4 in the second game, with three home runs and eight RBIs.

Lakeland travels to Moscow on Thursday for another doubleheader.
