PAC: The untold story

| April 13, 2016 9:00 PM

I was disappointed to read Jeff Selle’s April 9 piece on Precinct Committeemen and PACs. I would remind Jeff that the same Amendment that enumerates his right to pen his speculations ALSO protects the free speech of citizens. The entire premise of the article is shown to be false with one simple fact of which Jeff is fully aware. The highest elected official in the state has his own PAC. Butch Otter’s “Otter PAC” has the specific mission of going after Precinct Committeemen that don’t align politically with the governor. THERE is your story Jeff.

Precinct Committeemen are dedicated, unpaid volunteers who work countless hours at a difficult and sometimes thankless job to keep the public informed about candidates and issues. They are the foundation of their Party and deserve our thanks and not the derision of a reporter with an ax to grind.

Finally, and for the umpteenth time, I am not a member of any PAC. I am Board Chairman of the Idaho Freedom Foundation and I support MANY diverse causes and charities. Friends who know me will tell you that when people try to intimidate me I don’t back down, I double down. Now, where’s my checkbook.
