Blanche Evalea 'Lee' Ohnemus, 94

Blanche Evalea “Lee” Ohnemus, 94, died Wednesday, March 30, 2016, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Lee was born March 2, 1922, in Dupree, S.D.

She graduated from St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa, in 1944 and joined the Air Force as a nurse in 1951. Lee retired from the Air Force in the rank of Major but was later promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in the reserves. She spent most of her retired life in Spokane, Wash., and only recently moved to Coeur d’Alene to be near family.

Lee was preceded in death by her parents, Ferman and Marie Ohnemus; three sisters, Mary Louise Sharpe, Maxine Hubbard and Maye Ohnemus; and two brothers, Bob Ohnemus and Jim Ohnemus. Survivors include her loving sister-in-law Edna “Eddie” Ohnemus; and several nieces and nephews.

Lee was a devout member of the Roman Catholic Church so her memorial service is planned for at 10 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 219 E. Rockwood Blvd., Spokane. Arrangements are being made to have Lee’s cremated remains inurned in the columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery, where she will receive full military honors.
