William Sherman Pierce, 84

William “Bill” Sherman Pierce, 84, of Coeur d’Alene, passed away peacefully March 14, 2016, after a short illness. Bill was born Nov. 29, 1931, in Hope, Idaho, to Samuel and Edith (Wiltse) Pierce.

During his childhood he grew up on the family’s “80 acres” in Hope. He married Martha Cornwell and they enjoyed raising a family and traveling. They had a wonderful marriage of 49 years.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1948-1950 and the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1952. He was a long-haul truck driver the majority of his life.

Bill is preceded in death by his wife, “Mart;” son Samuel William Pierce; and sisters Nina Conn, Colleen Hunt, Nancy Singleton, Margie Pierce, Robert Pierce and Sylvia Pierce. He is survived by his daughters, Marie Ballard and Lucille Zygutis; sister Beverly Pennington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Rose Terrace Cottages, Kootenai Health and Hospice of North Idaho for their care and compassion for our Uncle Bill.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016, at the Clark Fork Cemetery in Clark Fork, Idaho.
