NIC SOFTBALL: McIntosh's walk-off homer gives Cards split with CCS

| April 7, 2016 9:00 PM

COEUR d’ALENE — Chloe McIntosh hit a three-run homer to cap a five-run seventh inning in the second game, lifting the North Idaho College Cardinals to a 9-6 victory and a split of a Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader with Community Colleges of Spokane on Wednesday at Lake City High School.

CCS won the opener 2-0 as Michele Strauss scattered eight hits, struck out six and walked four.

Jamie Yurick doubled to lead off the seventh in the second game for NIC, and scored on Brittany Gay’s single. The Cardinals tied the game on a fielder’s choice, and McIntosh followed with a two-out homer to end the game.

Yurick and Gay hit back-to-back homers in the fifth for NIC (17-5, 11-3 NWAC), which trails first-place Columbia Basin by one game in the East Region, and Abby Howard hit a solo homer in the sixth.

CCS is 15-9, 7-7.

NIC plays host to Walla Walla on Sunday in a doubleheader. NIC announced, due to construction at Memorial Field, all home games the rest of the season will be played at Lake City.
