UYLESS: Sorry for the typo

| April 6, 2016 9:00 PM

Mr. Mutton is correct about my mis-typing the year 1965 for the Gulf of Tonkin attacks. I made an entry error, compounded by a proof-reading oversight. The correct year was 1964. Obviously, I was well aware of the date, as I was part of the incident. I mis-typed one digit.

The two other times I cited 1965 in the article are correct. 1965 was the year America landed Marines at Danang and the photo was taken during a routine patrol shortly after the invasion. I was with this landing force.

Nonetheless, the mistake is mine. I am meticulous in my research and I am upset by my mistake. My integrity as a writer depends upon accuracy in reporting facts. I apologize to Mr. Mutton and the other readers of The Press for this oversight.

Space did not permit me to describe further my personal knowledge of the attacks. Interested readers can contact me via The Press if they wish more details that have not been published in any media. I promise to enter and read my text more carefully!

Also, I will post a more complete story shortly on my blog. I will ask The Press to inform you of the various links you can click to download this unpublished account of the incident.

Mea Culpa,

UYLESS BLACK
