Chiefs bow out of playoffs in 6

SPOKANE — Hopes of the eighth-seeded Spokane Chiefs upsetting the top-seeded Victoria Royals came to an end Sunday night in a 6-2 loss in Game 6 of their first-round Western Hockey League playoff series before 3,104 at Spokane Arena.

Jordan Henderson scored 3 minutes into the game for Spokane, but Victoria responded with two power-play goals in three minutes, and added a goal on a 4-on-4 for a 3-1 lead after one period.

Victoria scored twice on three shots in the second period to build a 5-1 lead. The Chiefs outshot the visitors 13-3 in the period.

Keanu Yamamoto scored midway through the third period for the Chiefs. He scored in all six games, and led Spokane with 10 points (3 goals, 7 assists).

Victoria, which scored three power-play goals in the first five games, went 3 for 5 on the power play Sunday.

Tyler Soy had two goals and two assists for Victoria, Jack Walker had two goals and an assist, and Alex Forsberg had three assists.

Victoria advances to the Western Conference semifinals beginning Friday night. The Royals play the winner of tonight’s Game 7 between Kelowna and Kamloops.
