PREP BASEBALL: Trojans top Hawks

| April 3, 2016 9:15 PM

POST FALLS — Josh McGlathery allowed one hit and struck out eight after entering the game in the second inning, and the Post Falls Trojans beat the Lakeland Hawks 13-3 in six innings of a nonleague game on Saturday.

“Josh came in with the bases loaded and got out of a jam,” Post Falls coach Dustin Frank said. “He threw a ton of strikes and did a really good job for us on the mound. It’s nice to see when one of our guys is struggling, we’ve got guys that step up and pick him up.”

Dusty Weeks had four hits and drove in two runs and Quin Bennett scored three runs for Post Falls (8-2), which plays at Sandpoint on Friday. Tristan Morrow hit a walk-off single in the sixth inning for Post Falls, which was also scheduled to play Sandpoint but a communication error between the schools forced the postponement.

Ryan Pote, Jared McDaniel and Dylan Bradbury had hits for Lakeland (3-4), which hosts Lake City on Tuesday.

“This game started out as being really good,” Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury said. “Both teams were executing and the score changed hands a few different times. Then, for some reason, the wheels just fell off for us defensively. We committed 11 errors and just lost focus. You’re not going to win many games when the defense falls apart like that. We are a much better team than that. I fully expect us to turn the corner and start playing the kind of baseball I know we’re capable of playing.”

POST FALLS — Ryan Pote, Dylan Bradbury and JJ Mackesy drove in two runs each as the Hawks beat the Tigers.

“Lakeland did a great job of taking advantage of a few of our pitching mistakes,” Timberlake coach Matt George said. “They hit the ball well when it counted. Our starter struggled, but Rodriguez did a great job of stopping Lakeland’s momentum. They figured him out after a couple of innings and took full advantage again. (Braxton) Tonkin did a great job of challenging hitters and shutting them down.”

Derek Galloway had three hits and two RBIs and Ty George had two RBIs for Timberlake.

“We hit the ball well today, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a couple rough innings,” coach George said. “Overall, it was a good game for us. I was really proud of the boys. They never gave up.”
