Democrats announce local delegates

Based on two rounds of voting at the March 22 Democratic Presidential Caucus in Kootenai County, Hillary Clinton was awarded eight delegates and Bernie Sanders earned 27.

Each candidate also earned an equal number of alternates.

Paula Neils, chair of the Kootenai County Democratic Central Committee, released the names Friday of the delegates selected to represent Kootenai County Democrats at the Idaho State Democratic Convention in Boise, June 16-19.

The combined attendance at two caucus locations on March 22 — the Kootenai County Fairgrounds and the North Idaho College Schuler Performing Arts Center — was approximately 2,300 participants and observers. More than 100 people put their names on the delegate nomination list.

Overall, from the 24,000 Idaho Democrats who met in county caucuses, 384 state delegates, as well as alternates, were elected to attend the June convention.

These delegates will select 23 people from among themselves to attend the Democratic National Convention in July in Philadelphia.
