Ex-Post Falls, NIC volleyball standout Meehan signs with College of Idaho

CALDWELL — Brenna Meehan of North Idaho College is among three outside hitters who recently signed letters of intent to play volleyball at NAIA College of Idaho, Lady Yotes coach Liz Mendiola announced.

Meehan led NIC to a 10th-place finish at the NJCAA tournament last fall. The 5-foot-9 Meehan, the third of three Meehan sisters to play volleyball at NIC, earned All-Scenic West Athletic Conference and All-Region 18 honors after leading the SWAC in kills per set (3.39), and also averaged 2.77 digs and 0.36 aces per set.

“We recruited Brenna out of high school and we were thrilled to get a second chance at her,” Mendiola said. “She had a tremendous sophomore season at NIC and her level of play and experience are an important addition to our roster.”

Mendiola also signed a pair of 5-9 high school seniors — Ashley Pagan from Colorado Springs, Colo., and Chloe Lampman from nearby Middleton High.

The Lady Yotes are coming off their fourth straight Cascade Conference Tournament championship and their 10th trip to the NAIA championships in the last 11 years.

Eastern to play and host

games in 2016 Legends Classic

Eastern Washington University will host a four-team subregional round as part of its first appearance in the Legends Classic in the 2016-17 men’s basketball season.

The eight-team field was announced by the Gazelle Group on Thursday.

The Eagles will play four preliminary games in the event, which also includes Notre Dame, Texas, Colorado, Northwestern, Bryant, Louisiana Monroe, and Seattle. Although dates have yet to be finalized, Eastern will host a four-team subregional tournament involving Bryant, Louisiana Monroe and Seattle in mid-November (tentatively scheduled for semifinal games on Nov. 21 and the championship and consolation games on Nov. 22). Eastern’s other games in the Legends Classic are road contests at two of the remaining four teams (Notre Dame, Texas, Colorado, Northwestern).

Eastern recently concluded its participation in the College Basketball Invitational, and also participated earlier this season in the Gotham Classic. Both of those events were also presented by the Gazelle Group.

NCAA participants Notre Dame, Texas, and Colorado, along with Northwestern, will advance to the Championship Rounds of the Legends Classic at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, Nov. 21-22.

The complete schedule for the 2016 Legends Classic will be announced at a later date.
