HORSES: Witness to cruel behavior

| September 25, 2015 9:00 PM

My husband and I were enjoying our walk at English Point on Saturday, Sept. 19 when we came upon the 4-H Club Sparkles & Spurs. We were admiring the horses as they went by when all of a sudden, one of the horses got spooked and upset others around him. An adult started yelling, “Get off and beat the crap out of him,” and the rider did. No one in the group tried to intervene; they just looked on as if this was the normal way to do things. So very sad to see the minds of these young girls accepting animal cruelty as a norm!

I did approach the adult and asked about her method and she went on a rant about you have to show them who’s boss and must be brought into submission. All we can say is, pity the horses they own!

Some in position should question those in leadership. We would encourage anyone who has horses to read “Horse Whisperer” by Frank Bell. Your fears — anger — frustration — should never be unleashed on any animal.
