9/11 POEM: United We Stand

| September 23, 2015 9:00 PM

In the depths of my soul, my heart on a leash

Seeing first hand, what has shattered our peace

Could this happen to us in 2001

We felt oh so safe, with each setting sun

My mind and my ears went from knowing it’s true

My God what has happened, God what do we do

To cripple us now, I’m afraid was the task,

Why could this happen and who do I ask

I wonder in mind and ponder in thought

Can good come of this as it can’t be for naught

The call to awake and take a firm stand

Let no one possess the right to destroy our great land

So all the powers, the powers to be

Will come to the front and help you and me

We mourn for our dead, we rebuild and repair

We show we can help and know that we care

Now I ask you dear God with all our resources

Do we take our revenge with the mighty Armed Forces

Can we punish just those that have hurt us so deep

Not allow them to run or allow them to sleep

We cannot stand by as a powerful nation

We need to strike back without hesitation

They will know this, and learn to regress

There is no way now, to hurt the U.S.

Our banners and flags, you see everywhere

Show we stand straight, and in our country we share

We don’t look back we just look ahead

We owe this to us, and all that are dead

We have more than plenty, we learn and we watch

All it will take is to cut back a notch

We survived many wars and have saved our great land

Knowing now what it takes, is United We Stand
