GUNS: Put 'em down and talk
Wednesday, Oct. 28, Bill Rutherford wrote an extremely thoughtful article about being a gun owner and hunter while also being the principal of a local elementary school. In that role he has the responsibility of protecting those children from an event like Sandy Hook, where 20 grade school kids and six adults were murdered by someone who should NEVER have had access to firearms. He also has served in the military and received extensive training in weapons safety.
From all these perspectives, he is trying to encourage us to have SERIOUS conversations about gun ownership and safety. OH, You missed the article? It was in Section D, Food & Health. It should be re-printed on the front page — above the fold. We, as a nation, or a rural community, can no longer scream the Second Amendment (by the way, where is the well-organized militia?) and dismiss any other point of view. Let’s talk.
