REGAN: Questions for 12-hour senator
Dear Mr. Brent Regan; Prominent voice of the GOP and the “very afraid.” I have questions and your “My Opinion” didn’t answer them.
If the federal government spends $16 million to collect child support for Idaho children, can Idaho afford to do the same? Republican Sharon Culbreth claims we can. You state there are only 1,400 child support cases handled in Idaho each year, but there are 155,000 families receiving child support. Please explain the discrepancy.
If the federal government doesn’t help collect child support, what proportion of the total $205 million will our children lose? If the state had to take over full collection throughout the U.S. and in foreign countries, how long would it take for Idaho to get up to speed, especially if it loses access to all the federal tools?
On a more personal note I am very puzzled by an earlier statement of yours. I read that you have a son who will soon be in the Marines, serving overseas. Regarding your son you said, “I worry about some foreign court ordering some protection order from some claim from some woman somewhere and my son…” Are you worried “some woman” might rape your boy? Or are you more worried he may sow some wild oats and one will germinate and “some woman” will want him to take responsibility?
Just saying. I look forward to your replies.
