KUDOS: To all in public safety

| May 3, 2015 9:00 PM

Sometimes it takes a tragedy to once again realize how much we have to be thankful for in our country. Here in Kootenai County we experienced four earthquakes, albeit small ones as compared to the devastating earthquake in Nepal, but we are lucky to have on hand a fire department, police department and rescue teams that will act immediately to the problem. I must admit, however, that my feelings are partial to the fire department, my reason being the following.

My oldest grandson, David Prohaska, is a firefighter for the Fairfax County, Va., fire department, and he is a member of the Urban Search and Rescue team that had been sent over to Nepal to help with the disaster. They are expected to stay there at least two weeks, and perhaps more time if needed. They also took four service dogs to help with the rescue. My thoughts and prayers will be constant until he and the rest of his team are back home safely.

So again many, many thanks to these men and women of these various departments for your service, which is given 24/7 regardless of the time of day, and to the Northern Lakes Fire Department, when I see one of your members I’ll be giving you a “thumbs up!”
