CHAMBER: Yes to safety bond

| May 3, 2015 9:00 PM

The Board of Directors of the Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce overwhelmingly voted in support of the city of Coeur d’Alene’s Safety Bond during their meeting on April 23. The following statement was released by the chamber:

“A vibrant local economy is dependent on a solid infrastructure that includes the creation and maintenance of a safe environment. Such an environment includes the assurance of adequate police and fire protection for local businesses and the citizenry and workforce of said businesses. Therefore the Coeur d’Alene Chamber supports the request for a $6 million, 10-year general obligation replacement bond and urges a YES vote on the May 19 ballot.”

On May 19, Coeur d’Alene voters will be asked to consider a $6 million, 10-year public safety bond to fund capital expenditures for the police and fire departments. The bond renews a 10-year bond set to expire this year. Based on a reduced overall amount and a reduced interest rate, this bond will actually cost taxpayers less than the current one, reducing the tax rate by 18 percent.
