ART: Resident rejects Epiphany

I broke out grinning ear to ear Wednesday morning when I saw an Epiphany of art in Hayden, the article and photo on the front page. Son of a gun! They did it again! The Coeur d’Alene Press once again is over the top on its April Fools’ joke.

Wait one minute! (Quick check of the date.) Not an April Fools’ joke! Surely not! This thing belongs in Austin, Texas, where the creed is “Keep Austin Weird.” It looks like a colorful version of Pinhead from the 1987 movie “Hellraiser.”

I love art, don’t get me wrong, but this piece does not go with the city’s Bavarian look and rich history of logging, farming and recreation. I asked my 14-year-old what he thought. He just shrugged his shoulders and said, “Yeah, it’s ugly, but I guess that’s art.”

As for me, I’m in the Panabaker camp. I don’t get it at all and I live here! Please consider a realism piece and not such an abstract eyesore for our town!
