John Henry Shelton, 1946 - 2014

| March 22, 2015 9:00 PM

Passages are usually not easy and the loss of a dear friend is a hard one. Many of the old time Coeur d'Alene buddies from the early 1960s hold dear memories or stories of when life was definitely simpler and a night at the Wilma Theatre or the Coeur d'Alene Drive-In was considered a "life event." Several great stories still linger about the Class of 1964, I am sure, and it is with a heavy heart that the passage of John Henry Shelton needs to be shared.

John passed away in early December after never fully recovering from a stroke some 15 years ago. John was ASB President of Coeur d'Alene High School in 1964; John was also one of Mr. Richard Hyneman's high school debate stars, earning a full ride at Gonzaga University before joining the U.S. Army. In Vietnam, he served as a Language Specialist.

After the war was over and he came home, John settled in McKinleyville, Calif., graduated from Humboldt State, married and had two great sons, Dan and Nick, and lived to meet his only granddaughter. John and his former wife, Tina, bought a home there in 1972 and John lived there until his death. He reworked that old house from top to bottom, and it was something he had great pride in accomplishing.

John will be remembered for his brilliant mind, his super wit, and yes, perhaps his ever present rebel attitude ... but he did have a cause. He lived his life with joy, believed in friendship, and was determined to not let tough times get him down.

Farewell, John ... you will not be forgotten!
