SENATORS: Should oppose sanctions bill
I was disappointed to learn that Idaho’s Senator Risch signed the threatening letter sent to Iran’s leader regarding their nuclear program and the negotiations that have been taking place over the past year. It seems that Congress is working very hard to start another military action in the Middle East, as well as undermine our government.
If Congress passes new sanctions or other saber-rattling legislation, it would signal to Iran and the international community that the U.S. may renege on its commitments to halt the expansion of sanctions in exchange for Iran halting its nuclear expansion. That is why I hope my senators will oppose the Menendez-Kirk sanctions bill (S. 269) and the Corker legislation (S. 615) mandating an “up or down” vote on any agreement reached with Iran, and worse, blocking the agreement from going into effect.
The Friends Committee on National Legislation has more on what we can all do to support diplomacy and prevent another war at fcnl.org/iran.
