TOLERANCE: Force us into dilemma

| March 18, 2015 9:00 PM

Re: Your editorial on tolerance in Sunday’s, March 15, paper. You speculated on what could happen when like-minded people — Christians, Republicans, Whites — get together; they don’t know what it’s like to walk in another person’s shoes. Can you carry that out to what happens when blacks or Hispanics, non-Christians, or Democrats get together? I submit that your analysis fits there too, staying in their “comfort zone.”

Tolerance works both ways. I would just like to state that almost all the people I know and hang out with give a large percentage of their income to charitable causes, are involved in a mission of charity whose only criteria is based on need, are involved with the Union Gospel Mission, give of themselves, their time, their talents to the less fortunate in innumerable causes to their benefit, no matter what color or creed.

By putting us into the “intolerant” category you force us into a dilemma. How do we defend the indefensible? This only perpetuates the narrative that Caucasians, conservatives and Christians are intolerant. You have done exactly what you have accused the other groups of doing, that is, labeling and judging. You could have found ample evidence to the contrary of your editorial had you looked for it.
