BOISE (AP) - A bill requiring parental permission for teens to use tanning beds has cleared both houses in the Idaho Statehouse.
That means the legislation is headed to Gov. Butch Otter for his signature.
The Senate passed the plan 23-12 on Thursday.
The bill would completely ban children younger than 14 from using tanning beds. Teenagers ages 14 to 17 would need parental permission to use one.
Similar rules already exist for piercings and tattoos.
In 2012 and 2013, two more limiting versions of the bill failed.
Sen. Marv Hagedorn of Meridian told lawmakers that children are especially vulnerable to radiation from tanning beds, which can cause cancer.
