George Ray O'Riley, 71
Our lovable George O'Riley went to be with the Lord early Sunday morning March 8, 2015. George was born June 20, 1943, in Rapid City, South Dakota. George Ray was the 4th child of George O'Riley of Davenport, Iowa, and Bessie Fuller O'Riley of Fort Atkins, Wisconsin. Most of his younger years were in Rapid City, South Dakota, then moving for a short time to Oregon and then to the Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls area in 1952. He graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School, the first in his family to do so.
After graduation he served in the US Army during the Vietnam era. After returning from Vietnam he helped his sister Dottie and brother-in-law Elmer Peterson run a service station in Alzada, Montana. He improved his mechanic skills and enjoyed working on cars. George met and then married Vickie Speidel in 1979. He worked as a private contractor for the US Post Office for 26 years and retired in 2013.
George was a quiet spoken man with a fun sense of humor and a great love for his family. He spent much of his time going to yard sales and to the Post Falls auction, almost always turning the occasion into a social event. He will be missed by his many regular friends at the auction, and the yard sale business in Coeur d'Alene will never be the same. He was an avid collector of vintage trains and metal die cast cars.
George was preceded to heaven by his dad, George O'Riley; mom, Bessie Fuller O'Riley; sister and brother-in- law Dottie and Elmer Peterson; brother and sister-in-law Glen and Alice O'Riley; and brother and sister, Ken O'Riley and Karrol McDaniel.
George is survived by his wife, Vickie O'Riley of Post Falls, Idaho; brother and sister-in-law Leonard and Lois O'Riley of Coeur d'Alene; mother-in-law Helen Speidel of Alzada, Montana; sister and brother-in-law Viola and Gary Shuffield of Belle Fouche, South Dakota; sister-in-law Lynnette Kubik of Atkinson, Nebraska; brothers-in-law Steve Speidel of Lincoln, Nebraska and Doug Speidel of Alzada, Montana; and his loved Aunt Edith Meland of Bison, South Dakota. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews who enjoyed yard sales and time spent with him. He will be greatly missed but we know we will be united again in heaven.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 13, at Yates Funeral Home - Coeur d'Alene Chapel, 744 N. 4th St., Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, with graveside at Riverview Cemetery in Coeur d'Alene, following the service.
