DST: More sun in Idaho, not less

| March 4, 2015 8:00 PM

Saturday there was a small article in the Post Falls Press on page A9 stating that the Idaho House Ways and Means Committee is pushing forth a bill to eliminate Idaho from Daylight Savings Time. I think this article needs to be on the front page since it will affect every Idahoan.

Living in North Idaho we are all aware that we already suffer from lack of sunshine in the winter and look forward to the longer days in the summer so we can enjoy the outdoor activities that North Idaho affords. If this bill becomes effective, gone will be the opportunity to enjoy boating, barbecues, a round of golf, a hike or bike ride in the summer hours after work — it will be dark by 7 p.m. Those in southern Idaho may not realize the HUGE NEGATIVE impact this will have on our daily lives. Every member of the House Ways and Means Committee resides in the Boise area.

Additionally, if you work or shop in Spokane, this will also mean dealing with a one-hour time differential every day half of the year. What a TERRIBLE IDEA.

North Idahoans, please urge the committee to NOT DO THIS TO US in North Idaho.

If you would like to contact members of the House Ways and Means Committee, they can be found at http://openstates.org/id/committees/IDC000028/ways-and-means/

Additionally, we can petition the legislators from our area to speak up on our behalf. A list of Idaho Legislators can be found at http://www.sos.idaho.gov/elect/st_leg.htm.
