DINNER: Thanks for 'going wild' for Family Promise!

The 7th Annual Wild Salmon Feast to benefit Family Promise of North Idaho took place Feb. 14. It was sponsored by three Lutheran churches in the area - Trinity Lutheran Church, Lutheran Church of the Master and St. Mark's Lutheran. More than 200 people enjoyed the dinner, featured music, silent and live auctions and a delicious dessert auction. Raised in the evening festivities was a best-ever net total of $13,732 in support of FPNI's mission to shelter, feed and provide solutions to families in crisis. The evening would not have been possible were it not for the grilling mastery of Russell Flamm and Bill Dougherty. Their amazing seasonings and techniques ensured the signature entree - wild caught salmon from the cold waters of Alaska - was excellent! The chefs were most aptly assisted by Travis Morris.

Prize donors and major contributors to be recognized were Coldwell Banker Schneidmiller Realty, Thrivent Financial, Richard and Jill Jurvelin, artist John Jennings, Tammy Kerr - Exxon, Trinity Lutheran Church, Wealth Management Strategies, Capone's Pub & Grill, A to Z Rental, Pastry & More, BreadCo, Trinity Lutheran Church Women, Sandy Patano and Jack Riggs, Eula Hickam, Bob Rehnborg, Dougherty & Associates CPAs, Roland and Toby Curtis, Kiwanis Club of Coeur d'Alene, Lutheran Church of the Master, St. Mark's Lutheran, Christ the King Lutheran Church, The Plant Pro, Boche's Boutique, ROW Adventures, First Presbyterian Church, Joe's Castaway Fly Shop, Fins & Feathers Tackle Shop, Blacksheep Sporting Goods, Sweetwater Bakery, Bill and Mary Robinette, Hill's Resort, Vicki Costello, Polish, Alice DeShazer, Lakeside Quilting & Design, Norwex by Krista Hartley, Teri Burch, Freda Campbell, Artisan Portrait, Fine Image, Mary Morrow and Roberta Marolt.

Hats off to the decorating team of Jill Jurvelin, Jilann Carlson and Carrie White. Special thanks to the amazing kitchen and bar crew: Devlin Dougherty, Julie Fisher, Jeff Weiss, Nikki Betts, Darrin Payton, Sally Manthos, Cindy Heigl, Steve and Mia Pipkin Groth, Chris Corbin, Herb Millhorn, Larry Shenfield, Tate Erwin and Will Wilbanks with daughter, Jessica. Finally, I would like to give special praise to the youth of Trinity Lutheran Church who handled waiting tables with good humor and efficiency; Jerry and Terry Fairchild, who provided beautiful music for the evening; LeeAnn Freshour, our talented auctioneer; Cindy Wood with the FPNI Board and staff, and Master of Ceremonies Teri Burch with the many individuals who provided scrumptious desserts for the Dessert Auction.

Thank you to everyone for "going wild" for Family Promise of North Idaho, and giving a "hand up" to families in crisis of homelessness.

ICE BREAKER: Appreciated generous support

The Hauser Lake Watershed Coalition would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere appreciation to all the generous supporters of the Coalition's 10K Ice Breaker Run for the past nine years. You sincerely demonstrated the true meaning of our motto, "Caring Enough to Make a Difference."

The effort put forth by Coalition members and the Hauser Lake community has left a lasting "footprint" of "joy" for all our running enthusiasts. As a result of the growing popularity of this second seed Bloomsday race, it became necessary to seek a local entity that had the capability to sustain this growth long term. Fortunately, the Double J Dog Ranch, a non-profit sanctuary providing primarily for blind and deaf dogs, expressed interest in assuming responsibility of the event.

Duane and Cris Justus, Directors of the Ranch are well known for their rescue efforts throughout the Northwest. They are also local residents, active in the community and successful business entrepreneurs. Therefore, the Coalition has passed the "baton" for the Run to the Double J Dog Ranch. Duane, Cris and their team have already embraced the Ice Breaker operational duties assuring a continued growing, fun community event.

The Coalition hopes that you will continue to support the Ice Breaker under the auspices of the Double J Dog Ranch. Thank you again for your past support.

Sincerely,

Jim Wallace

TEEN DENTAL PARTY: Thank you volunteers!

Dozens of Kootenai County youth received no cost dental screenings, fluoride varnish and sealants at the 5th Annual Teen Dental Party. On behalf of Panhandle Health District, I would like to thank all those who volunteered and donated to make this possible. Special thanks to Dr. Justin Rader from Generations Dental, Hayden Family Dental Care, Riverstone Dental Care, Brumbach Family Dentistry, CDA Dental Center, Laser Dentistry, Dr Daniel Cullum, Dr. Thomas Smart, Dental Hygiene Instructor Emily Petrie and her EWU students for providing services and vouchers for follow-up care.

Thank you to the Kroc Center, Sunset Bowling, Wild Walls, Caruso's Sandwich and Pizza Company, Hayden Papa Murphy's, CDA Qdoba and Noodle Express for donating door prizes for all the kids. I would also like to thank Pilgrim's Market and Super 1 Foods for arranging healthy snacks for families enjoying the party.

Staff and volunteers welcomed kids with enthusiasm and a fun approach. They stayed late into the evening to fit in as many teens as possible. The bright smiles and thankful families made it easy to see the positive impact of their hard work.

I'm grateful for another successful Teen Dental Party and a community that cares about our youth's health. Thank you!
