BOYS BASKETBALL STATE PLAY-IN GAMES: Vikings, Badgers come up short
Borah 67
Coeur d'Alene 51
GRANGEVILLE - After an emotional victory at Lake City on Thursday, the Coeur d'Alene Vikings didn't have enough left in the tank on Saturday.
That, and Borah of Boise played well - building a 51-32 lead afer three quarters in the state 5A play-in game at Grangeville High.
Sophomore Rylan Bergersen, son of former Boise State star Roberto Bergersen, scored 22 of his 27 points in the first half for Borah (19-6). The wing finished 10 of 13 from the field, including 2 of 3 from 3-point range.
"Borah played really well," Coeur d'Alene coach Kurt Lundblad said. "That Bergersen, he's an excellent basketball player; we couldn't find a way to contain him. They started out strong, and we were trying to play catch-up the rest of the way. They got a lot of transition buckets in the first half."
Borah advances to state, and faces District 3 champion Rocky Mountain (19-5) of Meridian on Thursday at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa.
Senior Colby Daniels scored 17 points for Coeur d'Alene, which finished 16-9.
"My kids, there was no quit, but I couldn't be prouder," Lundblad said. "I just never felt like we got into a rhythm. We didn't make those runs that we typically make. But it wasn't for lack of effort."
Senior Tony Naccarato had eight points and seven rebounds, and sophomore Joey Naccarato had seven points and seven boards for the Vikings.
"We gave it our best, and I have five incredible seniors that will be extremely difficult to replace," Lundblad said.

GRANGEVILLE - Tanner Kramer scored 17 points, 13 in the first half, to lead the Panthers past the Badgers in a state 3A play-in game at Grangeville High.
Parker Lewis hit the go-ahead jumper with 30 seconds left for Parma (11-13), which advances to face Buhl (18-5) in the opening round of the state tournament on Thursday at 2 p.m. PST at Meridian High.
"We had the ball in the final 30 seconds of the game and never got a great shot opportunity," Bonners Ferry coach Andy Rice said. "Tanner is a good player and can flat score. Our game plan was to stop him and we gave him too much room in the first half. The rest of his teammates stepped up in the second half."
Kaleb Stockton scored 20 points, hitting five 3-pointers for Bonners Ferry, which finishes 10-12.
"They fought back after getting down in the third quarter," Rice said. "They picked up the defensive pressure and we couldn't score in that last possession."
