Patchin, Phillips to

broadcast Vandal football games

MOSCOW - Longtime KXLY sportscaster Dennis Patchin will be joined in the broadcast booth this fall by former Idaho standout Ryan Phillips to call all the action for University of Idaho football, the Idaho athletic department and Learfield Sports Idaho Vandals Sports Properties announced in a joint statement.

"I used to listen to (Vandal Athletics Hall of Famer) Bob Curtis do Vandal football games when I was growing up in American Falls," Patchin said. "I always wanted to do games in Moscow because he made it sound like it was a great place to do a game, and he seemed to be having so much fun."

This will be Phillips' first foray into broadcasting.

"I was a little hesitant," said Phillips, a charter member of the Vandal Athletics Hall of Fame, "then I thought, what a great way to get back in touch with the Vandal Family. I'm excited."

Patchin replaces Tom Morris, who called football and basketball for the Vandals for most of the past 30 years. Morris is stepping back to concentrate on his role as general manager for Idaho Vandals Sports Properties.

Vandal games will continue to be broadcast in Coeur d'Alene by KVNI 1080.
