BOOK: Just who is the bully?
Poor, poor, poor, poor MaryJo Finney. She doesn’t get her way so she’s crying bully. She’s the bully, as far as I’m concerned. She wants to control everybody’s life according to her rigid religious belief system and when she doesn’t get her way, she cries victim. She and her group tried to take over the school board and that didn’t work out too well because, when it was explained what could and couldn’t be done lawfully, her candidate resigned “for health reasons.”
What Ms. Finney fails to understand is most people do not want to be dictated to regarding choice of reading material (or anything else, for that matter) which is just a fundamental right of ALL Americans, the freedom of choice. The “outspokenly conservative” doesn’t recognize anyone’s right of choice … the only choice you have is to follow their direction because they have all the answers. America was founded on that principle, the freedom of choice for any religion, including the freedom FROM religion.
Poor Ms. Finney, she spent 10 years trying to drive her religious agenda down our throat and didn’t get anywhere but she sure showed us, she took her kids out of the district four years ago … so why is she still trying to control reading lists for everybody else through censorship? I guess she’s trying to save all the rest of us by taking away our freedom of choice. What a “martyr.” She concludes her statement by telling us she had her daughter opt out of reading “Of Mice and Men” … good for her and I respect her for making her choice and I hope she respects me, and all the rest of the parents in 271, for allowing us the same option for our children, the freedom of choice.

PS: I noticed The Press had an editorial the day after the “Mice and Men remains” article suggesting a take it easy stance regarding this issue. If you wouldn’t have granted Ms. Finney about 14 inches of column space to rant, rave and cry about what a poor victim she has become, then maybe the editorial would have had some value. Who are you kidding, you love this controversy because it may sell a few extra newspapers.
