LEGION BASEBALL: Cardinel sharp through six; Kluss powers Lums at the plate
COEUR D'ALENE - Conner Cardinel threw six innings, struck out three and walked two as the Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen shut out the Spokane Dodgers 3-0 in nonleague action Wednesday night at Thorco Field.
"He's a horse for us," Coeur d'Alene coach Zach Clanton said. "He throws strikes, controls the tempo and gets the defense involved by getting groundballs."
The Lumbermen (12-1) added an insurance run in the sixth inning and Sam Slusser pitched the seventh inning to earn the save for Coeur d'Alene.
Devin Kluss went 2 for 2 for the night with two RBIs and two runs scored, hitting a solo home run in the fourth inning with one out.
"He's a special player," Clanton said. "He has a lot of power at the plate."
Reggie Nault, who played at Coeur d'Alene High, had two of Spokane's four hits.
Coeur d'Alene hosts host Northern Lakes in North Idaho League play today at 4:30 at Thorco Field.
