LEGION BASEBALL: Lumbermen win twice again, finish tourney 4-1

WENATCHEE, Wash. - The Coeur d'Alene Lumbermen class AA American Legion team whipped Seattle Select 12-3 and beat Toyota Baseball Club of Bellevue, Wash., 7-4 on Sunday to finish with four straight wins and go 4-1 at the Wenatchee tournament.

"It was great to see today, after yesterday," Coeur d'Alene coach Zach Clanton said. "Even though we won twice, we came out real flat yesterday. Today they did a good job jumping out in front early, making teams play catchup, and bunching some hits together."

Against Seattle Select, Stephen Vaudreuil had two hits and drove in three runs, including a two-run single in the second inning for Coeur d'Alene (11-1). He also pitched a complete game, scattering seven hits, striking out four and walking none.

"Stephen controlled the game on the mound, and set the tempo at the top of the lineup," Clanton said.

Devin Kluss went 3 for 4 - a homer short of the cycle - and drove in a run. Dominic Conigliaro delivered a two-run double in the second.

"It was a 9 a.m. game, and it was encouraging to see them jump out and hit the ball as well as they did," said Clanton, whose squad totaled 13 hits.

Against Toyota Baseball Club, Reilly Cherry hit a two-run single in the third inning for the Lums. The big at-bat, Clanton said, came in the sixth, when Toyota brought in a left-hander to face the lefty hitting Cody Garza, with runners on second and third. Toyota tried to pitch him away, Clanton said, but Garza was able to stay with the pitch and drive it up the middle for a two-run single, turning a one-run Cd'A lead into a three-run advantage.

Coeur d'Alene returns to action on Wednesday, hosting the Spokane Dodgers at 6 p.m. at Thorco Field.
