PREP BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Vikings surge past Lakeland
COEUR d'ALENE - Colby Daniels scored 15 points to rally the Coeur d'Alene Vikings from an early deficit to beat the Lakeland Hawks 64-47 in a nonleague basketball game on Tuesday at Elmer Jordan Court.
Lakeland (10-5) jumped out to a 7-2 lead before Coeur d'Alene responded with a 10-0 run to take a 12-7 lead after the first quarter.
"We called a timeout to gather ourselves and went on a bit of a run," Coeur d'Alene coach Kurt Lundblad said. "We did a lot of good things. We were pretty darn good defensively, but still had too many turnovers offensively."
Tony Naccarato had eight points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots and Brody Lundblad scored 12 points for Coeur d'Alene (11-5), which travels to face Moscow on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Cowan Spectrum.
"Tony did a lot of little things and really controlled the paint tonight," Lundblad said. "We kept them to perimeter points because of his presence in the paint."
Tyrel Derrick scored 16 of his game-high 21 points in the second half for Lakeland, which travels to Lake City on Friday.
"He's just a great player," said coach Lundblad of Derrick. "I've enjoyed watching him play for years and you're not going to shut him off. I thought Brody did a good job on him defensively, but you're not going to shut him down. He's a heck of a high school basketball player."
