OREGON CITY, Ore. - After a 31-12 setback on Dec. 13 as the No. 1 team in the NJCAA to No. 2 Clackamas, the North Idaho wrestling team gave the Cougars a little payback on Saturday.
Taylor Kornoely picked up a takedown in double overtime of the heavyweight match (285) pounds, clinching a 21-16 dual win for the second-ranked Cardinals over top-ranked Clackamas.
"It was a great dual," NIC coach Pat Whitcomb said. "It was No. 1 vs. No. 2 just like at our place, and it was nice to go in and return the favor on them."
Bryce Weatherston (141 pounds) and Dajour Reece (165) also had wins for NIC, which competes in the Clackamas Open today starting at 9 a.m.
"Bryce went out and turned the tides a little for us and wrestled a solid match," Whitcomb said. "Dajour had that kid beat him by one point at NIC, then he beats him by two. These were some real tight matches. I'm pleased with getting three wins on the road."
