JURY DUTY: A flaw detected

| January 23, 2015 8:00 PM

I had the pleasure of reporting for jury duty this week and was surprised to learn that potential jurors are not asked to provide their jury duty summons nor any identification prior to being assigned a juror number nor seated on a jury panel. I have to wonder if I could simply have sent a surrogate rather than appearing myself!

It also makes one question the validity of jury findings and the right to a jury of one’s peers concept if perhaps some jurors are not qualified or actually the person that was thought to have been on the panel. Hummm … wonder how many cases and sentences were perhaps decided by “unqualified” jurors?
