McEUEN: Rainbow needs some work
Regarding beautiful McEuen Park: Sometimes even intelligent, dedicated and well-meaning people get some things wrong. Although it’s probably not economically feasible to move the bathroom/snack shack building from its lake view blocking location, it may be possible to redesign the existing entrance artwork into something more pleasing to the eye and more meaningful to the residents. Why a piece that looks best at night (when no one is at the park) was chosen, I’ll never know. And its daytime aesthetic is surely an acquired taste — one I have yet to acquire.
The city should consider soliciting ideas from local artists and designers to modify the existing Under the Rainbow structure. Perhaps the piece could be improved to represent and honor the past, present and future of Coeur d’Alene and of North Idaho.
