PICTURE: And now, an amazing story
Two months ago my son and I were driving back to Coeur d’Alene from the Silver Valley. We are both avid dumpster divers. We stopped at the dumpsters at Wolf Lodge. I looked in one and found a picture, 14-by-20 inches, wooden framed with glass. I jumped in and retrieved it. It’s been sitting in my living room since.
For some reason, one night recently I picked up the phone book. I found a name of Lola Mayfield; said she lived in Wallace. Funny, this picture had “Floyd Mayfield, L, Star Mine” written on the back. The Star Mine is up Burke, right outside Wallace.
I called her, told her what I found. It was a picture of her husband who had passed in 2008. I asked her where she lived so I could give it to her. She said she lived on Best Avenue in Coeur d’Alene — right across the street from me!
I went to give it to her. She lives in assisted living. She invited me in to talk. She looked at the picture and she lit up. A tear in her eye, but a huge smile. I said, “Merry Christmas,” and gave it to her, talked for a while, connected with a lot of things; familiar things.
I believe this must have been an act of God. I love to see people smile. Especially if I created it. What are the odds of all this coming together like it did?
God is truly amazing.
Merry Christmas Lola Mayfield! God bless you, and may he keep you forever.
