Idaho hunting dog survives getting caught in snare trap

IDAHO FALLS (AP) - An eastern Idaho hunting dog named Maggie survived getting caught in a coyote trap by remaining calm.

Idaho Department of Fish and Game spokesman Dan Kelsey said the 5-year-old Weimaraner's leash training likely stopped her from pulling against the snare and choking herself to death.

Maggie's owner, Leslie Soderquist, told the Post Register Newspaper of Idaho Falls that she took Maggie for a run on Dec. 28 along 35 acres her family owns next to a canal.

She said she noticed Maggie was missing and eventually heard her yips and freed Maggie.

Kelsey found four more snares, one about 75 yards from Soderquist's house.

Kelsey says the trapper received permission from another landowner and won't be cited.

Soderquist said she now carries cable cutters.
