CHOICES: Dystopia or something better

| January 16, 2015 8:00 PM

A utopia is defined as an ideal state or paradise, like heaven. A dystopia is an anti-utopia that is unwanted and scary. It can be regarded as totalitarian, domineering and a controlling form of government which results in a catastrophic decline in society such as seen in North Korea today.

Dystopias are not only about the government but also the environment, religion, economics, science and technology. Our ethics (morals, beliefs, principles) also play a big role. Just look at some of the popular books and movies of today; The Hunger Games, Fahrenheit 451, The Matrix, Blade Runner, Clockwork Orange and George Orwell’s 1984.

We are at the crossroads of decision. It’s not a choice between which road to take because we are already living it. It’s a choice of how to proceed. Do we continue with greed, destruction and competition, or change to generosity, production and cooperation. It is all about our free will.
