New ortho group in Cd'A
Two local orthopedic specialists have joined together to create a practice that provides highly specialized care by fellowship-trained surgeons.
Coeur d'Alene knee specialist Dr. Jeffrey Lyman and Spokane sports medicine specialist Dr. Thomas Halvorson have launched the Orthopedic Specialty Institute. OSI officially opened Jan. 5 and provides advanced care and treatment of knees, hands, wrists, forearms and sports-related injuries. Offices are located in Coeur d'Alene and Spokane.
While OSI's name is new, its foundation has deep roots. OSI was born from The Lyman Knee Clinic, a specialty orthopedic practice in Coeur d'Alene focusing solely on knee care.
To treat a wider range of orthopedic injuries, Lyman partnered with longtime Spokane orthopedic surgeon Halvorson to form OSI. Halvorson spent the last 14 years in the Spokane area caring for high school, college and professional athletes. Halvorson also holds a certificate of additional qualifications in sports medicine - only two orthopedic subspecialties offer such advanced certification.
In addition to knee and sports medicine, OSI also provides hand care. Dr. Kate Kuhlman-Wood is OSI's hand specialist. Kuhlman-Wood is fellowship-trained and has published several research papers related to her specialty. A paper she co-authored on flexor tendon repair was recognized with a 2014 Best Paper Award from the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery journal.
"We are pleased to have a terrific group of physicians and staff who are passionate about what they do," Halvorson said. "And they're extremely good at it, too."
