Kindergartner forgotten on school bus

JEROME (AP) - South-central Idaho officials say a 6-year-old girl who fell asleep on a school bus on the way to class spent several hours alone before being spotted wandering on a road by a firefighter.

The Times-News reports the Jerome firefighter called police at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Jerome County Sheriff Doug McFall said the girl was wearing a coat and wasn't injured. He said a deputy gave the girl a ride to Horizon Elementary School.

North Side Bus Co. officials said the bus driver has been fired for failing to do a post-trip inspection after parking at a bus barn.

Jerome School District officials said staff is supposed to call parents if a student doesn't show up, but that call hadn't been made.
