Lopes lifts Timberlake to Intermountain League win over Bonners

SPIRIT LAKE - Senior Matt Lopes, trailing by 13 points, turned the tide for the Timberlake Tigers against the Bonners Ferry Badgers, earning a pin at 182 pounds in 5 minutes, 11 seconds to help the Tigers win an Intermountain League dual 54-36 against the Badgers on Tuesday.

"It was a very good win for us, and a league win," Timberlake coach Kelly Amos said. "We had to start some younger kids and they stepped up to get an important win, which was big for us."

Timberlake had one wrestler out with a concussion and two with illnesses. Garek Pennington (113 pounds) and Bailey Houston (152) won by pin for Timberlake, which competes in the River City Duals on Friday and Saturday at Post Falls High.

"We were pretty limited tonight," Amos said. "But it was nice to have some depth and it was nice to have those kids step in and wrestle for us."
