Coeur d'Alene romps past Sandpoint
SANDPOINT - The Naccarato brothers combined for 33 points, and the Coeur d'Alene Vikings jumped out to a 19-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, routing the Sandpoint Bulldogs 67-25 in a nonleague game at Les Rogers Court on Saturday.
Tony Naccarato had 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting, eight rebounds and four blocks, and Joey Naccarato had 16 on 5 of 8 field goals and 5 of 5 free throws, as well as six rebounds to lead the Vikings (14-7), who controlled the action from start to finish, including a host of steals and fast breaks in a 23-point third quarter.
Broc Coppess hit two 3-pointers and scored a team-high 10 points to lead the Bulldogs, who were shut out in the first quarter. Sandpoint (7-13), coming off a tough loss to Lakeland on Friday night, had difficulty handling the Vikings' half court trap, unable to get into an offensive set on many of the possessions.
"Defensively, I thought we were good again tonight," Coeur d'Alene coach Kurt Lundblad said. "The kids were active on both ends of the court tonight, and really played well on the defensive end."
Colby Daniels had six assists for Coeur d'Alene.
The game featured a odd juxtaposition among the two head coaches, as Lundblad is a former Sandpoint coach, and Kent Leiss is a former Coeur d'Alene coach.
Sandpoint takes on Moscow in the 4A Region 1 opening round on Feb. 23 at North Idaho College.
