Restrictions begin Wednesday on two more highways
COEUR d'ALENE - More highway speed restrictions due to break-up conditions will be imposed Wednesday morning at 6 a.m. for drivers in North Idaho.
The new restrictions will be on a 21.4-mile section of Highway 3 from the junction with Highway 97 to the junction with Interstate 90 and a 14.7-mile section of Highway 57 from Coolin Bay Road to the highway's end to protect against potential damage due to pavements and soils weakened by a combination of freeze-thaw cycles and heavier vehicles.
Heavy commercial vehicles heavier than 10,000 pounds GVW (gross vehicle weight) will be restricted to 30 mph from milepost 95.7-117.1 on Highway 3, and from milepost 22.5 to 37.23 on Highway 57. Trucks will be allowed legal axle weights, but oversize and annual over-weight permitted vehicles will not be allowed to operate on the highway.
These road sections join four other highway sections in the area restricted since the end of January, including:
* U.S. 95, milepost 522-538.56
* Highway 41, milepost 8-39.06
* Highway 53, milepost 0-14.3
* Highway 54, milepost 0-8.
