A Coeur d’Alene man died Saturday after suffering a heart attack while snowmobiling near the North Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River.

According to the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office, Kelly N. Nelson, 64, of Coeur d’Alene began suffering heart-attack-like symptoms while riding his snowmobile in the remote section of mountains near Grizzly Peak.

Members of the party Nelson was riding with reportedly took him down the mountain and contacted local emergency services, which contacted LifeFlight to dispatch a helicopter for emergency extraction.

LifeFlight crew members landed near the Bumblebee Bridge then traveled by snowmobiles to the patient located in the Steamboat section of the North Fork.

Although CPR had been started almost immediately on Nelson after the initial heart attack, medical crews were unable to revive him after they arrived, the sheriff's office reported.
