COEUR d’ALENE — Whitney Meier scored 16 points and Cierra Dvorak had seven points and four assists, leading the Lake City Timberwolves past the Wenatchee Panthers 62-26 in a nonleague game on Wednesday at Lake City High.

“We played well,” Lake City coach Bryan Kelly said. “I thought defensively, we challenged them and pressured their guards into some mistakes. Our posts did a great job of finding each other.”

Bridget Rieken scored 11 points, Nina Carlson eight points and Keara Simpson had 11 points and eight rebounds for Lake City (8-1), which faces Lake Stevens in the opening game of the Coeur d’Alene Winter Classic on Monday at Coeur d’Alene High.

“Both Nina and Whitney hit some shots from outside and everyone that played did a great job,” Kelly said. “Cierra did a good job of getting the ball up the court real quick. I’m pleased. It was probably the best four quarters we’ve played all season.”

Alli Hallberg scored eight points for Wenatchee.

COEUR d’ALENE — Duncan Butler scored nine points for the Timberwolves in a nonleague loss to the Panthers.

Gavin Long had 26 points and seven rebounds for Wenatchee.

“Wenatchee is a good, solid team,” Lake City assistant coach Kelly Reed said. “But for whatever reason, we didn’t show up tonight. We didn’t have much energy on either end of the floor and defended very poorly for most of the game, and we didn’t expect that type of effort. We’re young, so chalk it up to that, but we’ve got to bounce back and play a good team on Monday.”

Lake City (2-3) hosts Timberline High of Boise on Monday at 7 p.m. in the opening day of the Lake City Invitational.
