COEUR d’ALENE — Ridge Lovett (98 pounds), Jordan Grimm (106), Tyler Wolf (138) and Alius De La Rosa (138) advanced to today’s semifinal round of the 44th annual Tri-State Invitational with quarterfinal wins on Friday night at Christianson Gym.

Post Falls, the defending team champion, trails Hermiston 136-131.5 for the team lead after the first day.

“It was a good first day for us,” Post Falls coach Pete Reardon said. “I thought they wrestled and competed well. We had a few ups and downs, and some matches we’d like to have back, but honestly had more that we grinded out and found a way to win.

Post Falls has seven wrestlers remaining in the consolation bracket.

“We couldn’t be much closer to Hermiston and have a chance to do something in the morning,” Reardon said. “But it’s going to take a complete team effort.”

Coeur d’Alene senior Dylan Lockwood advanced to the semifinals at 138. The Vikings are 14th with seven wrestlers still alive in the consolation bracket.

“Dylan wrestled tough all day,” Coeur d’Alene coach Jeff Moffat said. “He beat the No. 3 seed (Hunter Garland-Cruz of Moses Lake), who beat him in the finals last week (at the Inland Empire Classic at Central Valley). We knew he had a chance to get him with a close match last week. Overall as a team, to be bringing eight back for the second day, that’s pretty good for not fielding a full team. We’ve got a tough road, but we’ll see what happens. They’re getting better and everyone is giving a good, hard effort.”

William Edelblute advanced to the semifinals at 98 pounds for Lakeland, which is 16th with 71 points.

Action resumes today with consolation rounds at 9 a.m. Championship semifinals begin at noon, with finals tentatively scheduled for 5 p.m.
