Responsible CDA PAC files campaign finance report, avoids fines

COEUR d'ALENE — Political action committee Responsible CDA filed its overdue campaign finance disclosure report.

The PAC could have been fined $50 per day if its 30-Day Post-General Election report wasn't filed soon. It was due Dec. 3, but the PAC was sent a written notice allowing five additional days.

Responsible CDA was behind a campaign flier supporting former incumbent City Councilman Steve Adams and city council candidate Toby Schindelbeck. Both lost big in last month's elections.

The fliers also suggested, falsely, that Mayor Steve Widmyer and Councilman Dan Gookin supported disbanding the city's urban renewal agency.

Brent Regan, who gave $1,570 in an earlier reporting period for campaign literature and postage, also was the only donor listed in the final report.

During the final period:

Regan gave $110 on Oct. 30, which was spent on preparation and production of advertising materials. The money went to L2, of Bellevue, Wash.

He gave $32 on Nov. 2, money that was paid to Robodial.org, of Frisco, Texas.

A day later, he gave $150, which was spent on preparation and production of advertising. The money went to Kalisto Design and Marketing, of Tensed.

Also that day, Regan gave $250, which was given to "Dan," from Hayden, for preparation and production of advertising. No last name was given on the report.

Regan said Tuesday he donated simply because he was asked to do so.

"They came to me with a proposal," he said Tuesday.

He declined to discuss the proposal, or make any further comments.

He did, however, call back later in the day.

"I'm tired of the apparent corruption and conflicts of interest," Regan said. "People like Eden Irgens can be on the (Balance North Idaho) board and they are vetting candidates, and she turns around and gets these contracts for work that really isn’t even good."

Irgens, reached by cellphone Tuesday while traveling, declined to respond to Regan's personal attack.
