NIC BASKETBALL: Cardinal women roll past Columbia Basin

COEUR d’ALENE — Sophomore Stormee Van Belle had 12 points, 10 rebounds and four assists to lead the North Idaho College Cardinals past the Columbia Basin Hawks 106-65 in a nonconference game Tuesday night at Rolly Williams Court.

“It was our best outing of the season for sure,” NIC coach Chris Carlson said. “We came out shooting the ball really strong and defended really well. We were just in control the entire way.”

Maci Benedict had 14 points and four assists, Shelby Cloninger and Monica Landdeck 13 points and Gracie Roberts 10 points for NIC (9-1), which finished the game 41 of 74 from the field.

Sierra Perez scored 25 points for Columbia Basin (2-4).

NIC hosts fifth-ranked College of Southern Idaho to open Scenic West Athletic Conference play on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

COEUR d’ALENE — Braian Angola-Rodas scored 39 points on 14-of-20 shooting, including 6 of 8 from beyond the 3-point line, leading the Cardinals past the Hawks in a nonconference game at Rolly Williams Court.

NIC (12-0), ranked 13th in this week’s NJCAA poll, will host Southern Idaho to open Scenic West Athletic Conference play on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. CSI, ranked No. 1 in the preseason poll, fell out of the poll this week.

Brayon (BJ) Blake scored 21 points for NIC.

Justin Anderson scored 23 points for Columbia Basin (4-5).
