COEUR d’ALENE — Freshman guard Trey Burch-Manning had 17 points and three assists for the North Idaho College men’s basketball team in a 95-68 win over the Green River Gators in a nonconference game on Thursday at Rolly Williams Court.

NIC (8-0), ranked 17th in the NJCAA poll this week, also got 19 points from Braian Angola-Rodas and 16 each from Haywood Irwin and Brayon (BJ) Blake in the win.

“The guys came out really well coming off the Thanksgiving break,” NIC coach Corey Symons said. “It was nice to come out on the floor. We came out and played well. We had five guys in double figures. We’re trying to get things kicked off before the Cardinal Classic coming up soon. It’s a good win for us, we have five games in six days. So it was vital for us to come out and have everyone contribute and get the guys ready for a big tournament that starts (today).”

“It was nice that Haywood Irwin came out and had his biggest game of the year,” Symons added. “It was a big boost for us.”

Marcus Harris, who played at NIC as a freshman, finished with 15 points and seven rebounds for Green River (4-3).

NIC will face Whatcom tonight at 7:30 in the opening round of the Bigfoot/Cardinal Classic at Rolly Williams Court. Green River will face Big Bend tonight at 5:30, also at NIC.

LAS VEGAS — Jordan Hall (149 pounds), Dajour Reece (165) and former Lakeland High standout Killian Estes (197) won by pinfall for the Cardinals in a dual victory over the Mustangs at the Cashman Center.

“That was kind of the difference with those guys getting those pins,” NIC coach Pat Whitcomb said. “It was a pretty evenly matched dual, and those bonus points went a long way. All in all, it was a good dual for us. Even the matches we lost, they were close matches. The guys did a good job of wrestling to the final whistle.”

NIC will compete in the 34th annual Cliff Keen Invitational today in Vegas.
