COUNTY: Permit process painful

On May 26, 2015, my architect and condo board applied to Kootenai County for a permit for the rebuild of an outdoor deck and staircase, etc. The permit is still in “review,” according to the website. Another page on the website says, “APPROVED” by Ben Tarbutton on June 2, 2015, and again on June 17, 2015. When I call or visit the planning department, I’m told the plans are “still in review.”

Just curious. My past experience with the building department has been pretty efficient and positive. Now wondering? Is the project approved or still in review? Is the Kootenai County Building Department seriously understaffed? Are others experiencing 3-4 month review periods of a simple deck and steps? A house plan must take a year for approval.

Glad I’m not dealing with a bank and a construction loan. Such delays must be costing contractors thousands of dollars.
