PREP ROUNDUP: Another game heading to the Dome
After waiting for the smoke to clear with little result, another area school is taking its home opener on the road.
Sandpoint will face Post Falls on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow, joining 5A Inland Empire League rivals Lake City and Coeur d'Alene among the teams to open in Moscow this weekend.
On Tuesday, Lake City announced its opener against Rocky Mountain High of Meridian will start at 3 p.m. on Friday, followed by Skyline High of Idaho Falls against Coeur d'Alene at 5:30. St. Maries will face Kellogg on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in Moscow.
Lakeland still plans on playing its opener against Lewiston on Friday at 7 p.m. at Corbit Field in Rathdrum, but should conditions prevent that, they'll try again on Saturday at noon.
Timberlake will host Frenchtown (Mont.) on Saturday at noon in its opener.
Plans for the Lewis County at Lakeside game remain unchanged, with kickoff still scheduled for 7 p.m. in Plummer.
"We're still here right now," Lakeside athletic director Ron Miller said. "If we can't play Friday, we won't be able to play the game. We'll have to make a decision at some point on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. because they've got to travel a little bit to get here. "
Conditions at Lewis County, a co-op between Highland (Craigmont), Nezperce and Culdesac High, are much worse than locally.
"We couldn't play the game tonight here, that's for sure," Miller said. "We're kind of at the mercy of the smoke."
Soccer matches featuring Post Falls at Moscow (boys) and Moscow at Post Falls (girls), scheduled for Wednesday, were postponed due to poor air quality.
No makeup dates were announced.
